I am so excited to teach at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary! Teaching through the arts is truly the most effective way to integrate the curriculum. The arts give students an opportunity to think in a different way about their world, as they experience the arts. It is amazing to see all children as they have conversations, listen and read stories and write about what they have learned through the arts curriculum. Our students are learning how to confidently and creatively communicate in our rapidly changing world.
I have an AA degree from Brevard College and a BS degree in Early Childhood Education from Winthrop University. In 2006, I received my National Board Certification in Early Childhood. I am currently working on my Masters in Learning and Technology.
I moved to Charleston in 1991 from Charlotte, North Carolina, where I taught 3rd grade. When I moved to Charleston, I began teaching at Mary Ford Elementary and enjoyed teaching Kindergarten for several years. This is my 10th year at ARCA teaching First grade. It has been wonderful being a part of ARCA as both a parent and a teacher. I am a very proud mother of two boys who were fortunate enough to attend ARCA during their elementary years. My oldest son Addison, graduated from Brevard College as a Theater major last year! My younger son, Eli, is currently a Sophomore at USC and plays Men's Soccer for the Gamecocks.
I tell you, the more I think, the more I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people.
